Question: What could this insect/bug be?

This morning my brother saw this 'thing' that he just described to me like this: "a black winged bug, with 6 legs each side, and teeth looking things, it was 10- 14 cm long ". Any ideas? It sounds CREEPY! oh, and it hissed at him... its in a jar.. i can see it lol
