butterfliesEastern Sierra Nevada. A typical habitat for the Apache Fritillary (Speyeria nokomis apacheana). Wet pasture with violets (the hostplant) and thistles (nectar source) growing together. If you look closely at this photo you can see a few of the large, orange-colored males nectaring on the thistle. Don't ask me the exact location where this photo was taken, 'cause I ain't telling.
