Habitat for the Sonoran Blue - 2

photo of butterfliesHere is another spot in the San Gabriel Mountains. A small, secluded canyon with a creek. The larval food plant of the sonorensis, stonecrop, was growing in the rocks above. The blues would be nectaring on tiny miner's lettuce flowers below. One memorable day I caught about six blues in a half hour coming to the same flower. Along the creekside to the left was nettle growing. I collected a good quantity of Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) larvae here also.
