Artemisia dracunculus

DogfaceAnother unidentified flower in the San Bernardino Mountains, California. I have caught many California Dogface butterflies (Zerene eurydice) on this flower, whatever it is. It only blooms from late summer to fall. It is irresistable to eurydice and also attracts quite a few Coronis Fritillaries (Speyeria coronis semiramis). CoronisThe flower is only about 6 inches high. It has a very aromatic, minty scent, which does the trick. All I have to do is park my car next to a patch of these flowers along the road and wait for the butterflies to come. They always do.
