Pinning

Pinned waspPinning Pepsis wasps. I use a No. 4 insect pin through the body and No. 5 and No. 7 pins for positioning the legs and wings. I use a thick piece of styrofoam for the substrate so I can get the specimen up higher than normal on the pin. This is necessary because extra space on the lower half of the pin is needed in order for the bulky legs to have enough clearance when pinning in the specimen drawer.
