Rearing Papilio rutulus
Full grown

Here are the fully grown rutulus larvae. They will be hanging up to pupate soon. It took a full month for them to grow to this size. Quite slow when you are in a hurry. Like many other Papilio species, these larvae expel a pungent scent from a gland in their head when they are disturbed. The rutulus scent is quite sweet, somewhat like vanilla.
