Rearing Papilio rutulus
Emerging cage

I pin up my Papilio chrysalids in a box lined with styrofoam. In this photo you can see some of the larvae have assumed the position to pupate but have not completed the process yet. The rutulus larvae turn from green to brown about 24 hours before pupation. I had to remove them from a sleeve even though they weren't done yet because my sleeve was outdoors on a willow tree - in the path of a wildfire! I managed to save them from the fire, one day before the willow tree was burned to a crisp.
